To be announced via our social media accounts
Aquaponics is a more sustainable food security project and this is becoming more relevant as food bank resources become over-strained, especially post-COVID and during inflationary times.
Our goal is to fundraise for a local aquaponics setup for the community to use.
Once the aquaponics system is in place, the food produced will be available for the community to consume.
The primary advantages of aquaponics are:
it provides year-round organic food (chemical-free)
very environmentally-friendly and drastically conserves water
For easy reference, a backgrounder on aquaponics is provided.
Fundraising Goal: $2000 for 100 kits
We plan on distributing hygiene care packages to vulnerable and homeless individuals in the local community. This is primarily a youth project and we will focus on downtown Ottawa. Any excess or remaining kits will be donated to the Ottawa Mission or Ottawa Food Bank.
A kit will contain items such as:
1 toothbrush & toothpaste
1 hand sanitizer
1 disposable mask
1 bar of soap or body wash
1 shampoo
1 hair brush or comb
1 pack of tissues or wipes
1 shaving package
feminine hygiene products ** (separate)
1 large zip-lock bag to hold items
We’re encouraging the community to write an appreciation card or letter for our front-line health care workers. This is in recognition of their hard work & risking their lives, especially at the forefront of fighting COVID-19. Likewise, many seniors have faced a difficult time in long-term care (LTC) homes and residences.
We highly appreciate all our front-line essential workers across multiple sectors. For this campaign, we will be focusing on collecting letters and cards of support for (1) hospitals and (2) seniors residences.
Please send them to our email trupathca@gmail.com. We will gather all cards and letters and send them together in one package to places like the Ottawa Hospital and local LTC / senior residences in Ottawa.
For writing tips, see the tip sheet.
We can all do our part individually and collectively. Be a good role model for your family, friends, colleagues and society-at-large.
